Starting Small
In 1938, Charles "Red" Schoonover borrowed $50 and started an autobody repair business in St. Paul. That initial
investment was the foundation for a quality minded, customer focused business that has carried through to this day.
During the '50s, Red's son Dick helped out by sweeping floors, washing cars and tending other small jobs around his
dad's business to "pay his dues". By the time his father passed away in 1966, Dick was ready to lead the company into its
next phase of development. When the automotive industry faced the new challenges such as OSHA and EPA licensing
requirements, in addition to continual industry changes, Dick's commitment, determination and vision for the company remained strong. Standing fast to his principals of quality and honesty, Dick propelled Schoonover to become a leader
in the industry.
Schoonover Bodyworks Inc. is still a family-owned and operated company, with a comprehensive inventory of electronic diagnostic and repair equipment. A generation later, Dick's son Mike entered the family business by sweeping the same floors. Today, Schoonover is a respected business throughout its community and industry, and the third generation is secured to take the company into the new millennium.
